I've always loved ELO since I was young and they played them on the radio, but recently I have been delving into some of their songs that never made it on the air.
As I listened to some tracks, I wondered if Daniel might have heard some of them and have been influenced by them, more likely the influence blossoming during the later Chair albums, namely Diorama and Young Modern. Not so much the rockers "Evil Woman," "Don't Bring Me Down" or "Do Ya," though I am sure they were on the radio all over; more the album tracks "Tightrope," "Mr. Blue Sky," or "One Summer Dream."
Take a listen:

Loa, I can't believe you mentioned that! A few months back, we spent the whole night finding old ELO songs on iTunes and Mr. Thieving said the same thing! I absolutely agree with you about the influence. He's made it clear over the years that he is heavily influenced by many of the 60's and 70's artists, so ELO would definitely make sense.

Yeah, despite if maybe Dan has been embarrassed to mention ELO as an influence (although I don't see why, considering he's mentioned the friggin Spice Girls! ) the more Loa and I listen to them, the more we're convinced Dan has heard many of their songs and wanted to re-create it to some extent. Obviously the Beach Boys, Beatles & more have influenced him, but ELO must have been in there too!

I like "New World Record" and "Eldorado" as studio albums. NWR is a bit better, IMO.

We just heard "Don't Bring Me Down" being played on XM. Just wondering, does anyone else know what word he sings after the "Don't Bring Me Down" part? Apparently, it's one of the most misheard lyrics and I just found out! I LMAO when I found out!
